We're Sundowning The Living Room Sessions
Five weeks after the Covid-19 lockdowns, the first ever Living Room (LR) session aired on April 17, 2020 - it's been over five years!
This is a message of gratitude to everyone who supported, participated in, and attended our Living Room sessions.
Friday, November 8, is our last one (register here).
We're sundowning the project so that we can make space for deeper commitments to our clients and ongoing explorations of how to activate the responsible jewelry movement as challenges evolve over time.
Watch a heart-felt message from Christina:
We want to thank some of the many people who have participated in this project over the years
We want to thank some of the many people who have participated in this project over the years. Producing a Living Room session takes work and several people have worked behind the scenes over time including Maggie Gabos, who helped launch the Living Room with Christina at the height of COVID in early 2020.
We created the Living Room during the pandemic to ensure that our community could stay connected despite lockdown and travel restrictions.
If you rewatch sessions from the early days you'll get a sense of how happy people were to be together even if it was over Zoom. In time the CMC team changed and Ana Brazaityte and Cecilia Echeverri joined, becoming familiar faces and contributing to thoughtful curation of topics, developing questions for speakers, and promoting each session. As roles evolve, Olga Krasilnikova has most recently been responsible for producing public communications about the sessions that you've come to know and appreciate - the takeaways, web pages, and social media posts.
Together, we have hosted over 34 sessions in a five-year time period, which included over 88 guest speakers all supported by over 55 people generously contributing to help underwrite the costs of producing the sessions.
Without you - whether speaker, attendee, or contributor - we wouldn't have been able to run the Living Room sessions as long as we did. Together we covered important and timely topics from all along the jewelry supply chain and materials. We included sessions that zoomed out to consider ethical frameworks, human nature, and climate change. Thank you, each one of you, for participating and making this a community that is such a pleasure to spend time learning with. We are also grateful to have partnered with Ethical Metalsmiths, The Alliance for Responsible Mining, Initiatives in Art & Culture, and Fair Luxury to produce sessions that were able to reach further because of the collaboration. I'd be remiss not to also thank everyone who chose to repost the invitations to Living Room sessions to help us reach more people and welcome them to learn with us too.
Thank you!
Even though we are sundowning the Living Room this should not be interpreted as signaling something else.
We're not going away. It is time though for us to put to bed a project that has, despite all of your support, really been a labor of love.
It is time to pursue other ideas for supporting the ever-evolving responsible jewelry movement.
What you can expect from the Living Room now is that all the videos and takeaways will remain on our website and accessible for free. We hope you continue to refer to them for guidance and inspiration. Please bookmark these pages so that you know how to access and share your favorite sessions.
Also, as of Dec. 31st, we will cancel all recurring monthly contributions to the Living Room which means that contributors' accounts will no longer be automatically charged.
Again, thank you so much for your support, you've helped hundreds of people stay informed.
Finally, thank everyone who chose to spend time on Fridays on Zoom speaking, listening, being curious, and asking great questions. Together we built a community that has contributed to this evolving responsible jewelry movement.
I hope you join us on Friday, November 8th. It is going to be a great session and you can register here.
Finally, we are considering one last community check-in session as a casual wrap up to share some of our favorite moments and takeaways on Friday, December 6th, and are curious if this is something you would be interested in. Let us know here.
This will only make sense to the folks who joined live sessions - of course I am shedding tears of appreciation for you all and for this incredible opportunity to be in the world with each one of you at this all-hands-on-deck moment for the people and planet.
With Love,
Christina + Team
